Women’s livelihoods

Owing to the community need of skill training (vocational) for girls and women so that they can contribute to family income, UHRC runs vocational training centres in Indore and a small district in North-East Delhi where girls and women learn stitching. The North-East Delhi is a vocational training centre which runs six months vocational training courses on tailoring and stitching as well as training beauticians. The Northeast Delhi has an education component under which school students who have dropped out are coached and encouraged to resume schooling. Women from nearby slum areas like Old and New Mustafabad, Chand Bagh and Yamuna Vihar are also provided education as per need including Urdu.

The Indore centres provide six months training on stitching and tailoring since Indore has a vibrant readymade industry. Presently there are two training centres in slum areas of Indore – Jagdish Nagar and New Ram Nagar.
