To uphold the honor of women, we are out on the streets

"The one who consumes alcohol, destroys his family; to uphold the honour of womanhood, we are out on the streets". Hundreds of housewives and children gathered for this rally to call upon and encouraged people to celebrate Holi without alcohol and gambling and use simple natural colours. Bhartiya Mahila Vikas Samiti, Narayich, which is a federation of 10 women's groups from different bastis of the area, in collaboration with Urban Health Resource Centre NGOs organized this big rally a few days before the festival of Holi. Superintendent of Policy Ms Pratibha Ambedkar flagged off the rally at Siddhartha Nagar. Dr Sanjeev Kaushal, the JnNURM Programme Officer for Agra also participated in the rally. All women spoke slogans against alcohol and gambling and encouraged all people of the entire area to enjoy Holi with joy and peace. The rally travelled via Firozabad road, Rakesh Nagar, Shyam Vihar, Sati Nagar, Sudamapuri and Rambagh. It concluded at Ambedkar Park in Narayich. During the rally, women held small meetings with citizens to convey the messages. UHRC's partnership officer Mr Naushad Ali coordinated the arrangements and Mrs Rajkumar, Kusumlata, Sudha, Premvati and others from Bhartiya Mahila Vikas Samiti played an active role in the event.
